Radar Reticence secures SEK 37 million to solve one of the automotive industry’s next big radar challenges

Radar Reticence has secured SEK 37 million in funding to bring its next-generation interference-free radar technology for automotive radar to its first customer pilot. The financing consists of a SEK 10 million equity round and a EUR 2.5 million grant, approximately SEK 27 million, from the EIC Accelerator.

 

Radar Reticence is one of 38 start-ups and SMEs selected by the European Innovation Council in the latest EIC Accelerator round. The programme supports high-potential deeptech companies on their path to market, and the selected companies were chosen for their transformative technologies and strong commercial promise.

 

In addition, Radar Reticence has been awarded EIC Accelerator blended financing, including the possibility of up to EUR 3 million in additional equity financing through the EIC Fund after the grant period.

 

The equity round welcomes Chalmers Ventures, East Sweden Capital and Almi Invest as new investors. Existing investors LiU Invest, Halland Invest, Augurium and Leif Haglund also participated in the round, reinforcing their continued support and belief in the company.

Radar is a critical sensing technology for advanced driver assistance systems and future autonomous mobility. As more vehicles are equipped with increasingly advanced radar sensors, interference between radar systems is emerging as a growing challenge for the industry. Radar Reticence is developing novel signal processing technology, packaged as a software licence, designed to enable more reliable and interference-free automotive radar performance.

The EIC-funded project is designed to take Radar Reticence’s technology from TRL6 to TRL8 over two years, accelerating the journey from validated technology to a market-ready product.

 

The funding will be used to execute Radar Reticence’s first customer pilot and expand the team. The company currently has six employees and plans to double the organisation over the coming year.

Founded in 2022 by Emil Nilsson and Hans Hellsten, researchers from Halmstad University, Radar Reticence builds on deep Swedish radar expertise. Over the past two years, the company has made significant progress in developing, validating and positioning its technology for the automotive market.

 

Through the Vinnova-funded SCARCE project, carried out together with NIRA Dynamics and Halmstad University, Radar Reticence has developed and tested its technology in relevant automotive radar environments. The company is also part of MeTARI, a Future Mobility project with US partners, focused on developing methods for testing automotive radar interference.

In parallel, Radar Reticence has built growing international market traction, engaged with leading actors across the automotive radar ecosystem and been selected for MobilityXlab, one of Sweden’s leading collaboration platforms for startups and global mobility companies.

With new capital, EIC Accelerator backing and a growing team, Radar Reticence is now entering its next phase: taking its software-based radar technology closer to commercial deployment and preparing for its first customer pilot.
